The finance cluster is what sets West Palm Beach apart. HUD reports more than 300 hedge fund, private equity and financial services firms in the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton area, a market that has drawn managers from the Northeast and calls itself Wall Street South ³. Healthcare is the other large employer group. Tenet Healthcare (5,734 employees), Baptist Health South Florida (3,135), the Veterans Health Administration (2,948), HCA Florida Healthcare (2,612) and Jupiter Medical Center (2,540) are on HUD's list, alongside Florida Atlantic University (6,335) and NextEra Energy (5,598) ³. Professional and business services account for 19% of payroll jobs and health services for 17% ³.

In August 2026 (preliminary), the West Palm Beach division counted 139,700 professional and business services jobs and 47,000 in financial activities ¹⁰. Palm Beach County had 55,803 business establishments in 2023, with 8,696 employing 10 to 49 people and 1,913 employing 50 to 249 ¹¹.

SEC Regulation S-P for West Palm Beach funds and advisers

If your firm is a broker-dealer, investment company, SEC-registered investment adviser or transfer agent, amended Regulation S-P applies ¹². That includes hedge fund and private equity managers registered with the SEC as investment advisers. Larger entities had 18 months and smaller ones 24 months to comply ¹², so both deadlines have passed.

The rule changes what you need from IT. Covered firms must keep a written incident response program and notify affected customers no later than 30 days after becoming aware of unauthorized access to sensitive customer information ⁶. Florida breach rules for Palm Beach County businesses

Once a business determines, or has reason to believe, a breach occurred, Florida gives it 30 days at most to notify affected residents, extendable by 15 days for good cause given in writing ⁵. At 500 or more affected Floridians, the Department of Legal Affairs must be told within the same window, and a vendor holding the data must tell the business within 10 days ⁵.

For SEC-regulated firms, one provision helps: notice given under a primary federal regulator's rules satisfies the state law if a copy goes to the Department ⁵. Missing the deadline is costly, with penalties of $1,000 a day for the first 30 days, $50,000 for each later 30-day period up to 180 days, and up to $500,000 beyond that ⁵.
