The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX: $103,260) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). - Managed service provider (MSP)
- A managed service provider is an outside company that runs a business's IT for a recurring fee, typically covering the help desk, device and server management, security monitoring, backups and planning.
Managed IT services in Dallas: typical costs
Dallas managed IT quotes usually fall within the $100 to $250 per user per month range that published pricing guides give, and security-inclusive plans can exceed $300 16. Ask for the per-user number even if a provider prices by device, so proposals line up.
Dallas-Fort Worth sysadmin pay sits just above the national level, and help desk pay just below. The May 2025 median salary was $103,260 for a network and computer systems administrator and $60,710 for a computer user support specialist 2, against national medians of $99,130 and $61,860 5. Add benefits, which BLS puts at 30% of private employer compensation 3, and one Dallas administrator costs about $147,500 a year by our calculation. A 25-person office on a managed plan would spend $30,000 to $75,000.
The gap narrows for larger offices. At 100 users and $150 per user, managed IT costs $180,000 a year, so firms of that size often keep one internal person and buy co-managed support. See the managed IT pricing guide for the details that move a quote.
Dallas businesses, headquarters and IT demand
Dallas County had 71,182 business establishments in 2023, of which 16,552 had 10 to 49 employees and 4,807 had 50 to 249 4. The county also counted 2,293 computer systems design and related services establishments 4, so there is no shortage of IT firms to compare.
The Dallas division is home to 19 Fortune 500 headquarters, and its largest employers include AT&T, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Texas Instruments, Southwest Airlines, Baylor Scott & White Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center 7. In August 2026, professional and business services employed about 651,300 people there and financial activities 314,400 (preliminary) 6.
For a smaller firm, that matters in two ways:
- Vendor due diligence. Law firms, agencies, staffing firms and software vendors that serve large Dallas companies get security questionnaires asking about MFA, encryption, backups and incident response. A managed IT provider should help answer them with evidence.
- Regulated work. Mortgage lenders, finance companies, mortgage brokers and tax preparers fall under the FTC Safeguards Rule 12, and practices tied to the area's hospital systems handle HIPAA data. See IT for financial services and HIPAA compliance services.

Get my Dallas quoteTexas data rules for Dallas businesses
Texas gives businesses up to 60 days to notify people after determining that a breach occurred. If 250 or more Texans are affected, the Attorney General must be notified electronically within 30 days of that determination 8. The same chapter requires reasonable procedures to protect sensitive personal information 8.
Texas's comprehensive privacy law, the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, has applied since July 1, 2024. It has no consumer-count threshold; it applies to businesses that operate in Texas or sell to Texans and process personal data, unless they are small businesses under the SBA definition. Small businesses still need consent before selling sensitive data 9. SBA size standards vary by industry, so check yours rather than assuming you are exempt.
Texas also rewards documented security. Since September 1, 2025, a Texas business with fewer than 250 employees cannot be ordered to pay exemplary damages after a breach if it maintained a qualifying cybersecurity program at the time 10. A program that conforms to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework is one example 10. Confirm the specifics with counsel.
Cybersecurity services in Dallas
Texas ranked second among states for FBI IC3 complaints in 2025, with 97,912 complaints and $1.83 billion in reported losses 11. Business email compromise drove about $3.05 billion in reported losses nationally 11, so any firm that moves money for clients should verify payment changes by phone.
Good Dallas cybersecurity services start with MFA, monitored endpoint detection and response, email filtering, tested backups and staff training. They should also produce documentation: a written security program mapped to a framework, which supports both client questionnaires and the Texas exemplary damages protection described above.
If a buyer asks for a penetration test, small external network tests start around $5,000 in published pricing 13. Our cybersecurity for small business guide sets priorities, and cyber insurance requirements lists the controls insurers check.
IT consulting and co-managed IT in Dallas
Dallas firms with an internal IT lead often pair that person with a co-managed provider. Pricing varies widely by scope; one provider's published co-managed range is $45 to $175 per user per month 14. The provider brings tooling, monitoring and after-hours coverage, and your staff keep day-to-day ownership. See co-managed IT for how responsibilities are usually divided.
Project consulting is priced by the hour or by the job; a 2026 migration cost guide puts outside consultants at $150 to $250 an hour 15. Common Dallas projects include building a NIST CSF-based security program, preparing for a client security audit, consolidating offices after an acquisition and Microsoft 365 migrations. Our IT consulting guide compares hourly and fixed-fee pricing.
How to choose a Dallas managed service provider
A Dallas provider should show you how it supports your sites and your paperwork, not just your devices. DFW is spread out, so confirm on-site coverage for every office before signing. Ask:
- Which of our locations get on-site visits, and how is drive time billed?
- Can you help us document a security program aligned to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework?
- Will you help complete client security questionnaires, and is that included?
- How do you hand back credentials and documentation if we leave?
Many Dallas companies also have offices in Fort Worth, Austin or Houston; one provider covering all of them simplifies support. Our guide to choosing an MSP adds contract questions, and the managed IT services overview covers the basics. Tell us what you need through the form; we pass each request to one local provider or advisory partner, who replies within one business day.

In Dallas, as elsewhere, published pricing guides list $100 to $250 per user per month 1. For a 25-person Dallas office that is about $30,000 to $75,000 a year. Plans with a full security stack can cost more.
How much does an IT administrator earn in Dallas?
Does the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act apply to small businesses?

How long does a Texas business have to report a data breach?
What is the Texas cybersecurity safe harbor?
Since September 1, 2025, a Texas business with fewer than 250 employees that maintained a qualifying cybersecurity program at the time of a breach cannot be ordered to pay exemplary damages 10. Conforming to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework is one example. It does not prevent lawsuits or other damages.

Use a fully managed provider if you have no IT staff, and co-managed IT if you have one or two people you want to keep. In one provider's published pricing, co-managed support runs $45 to $175 per user per month 14, which can cost less than a second hire, depending on headcount and scope.
