The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler, AZ: $93,730) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). This is our calculation. Licenses, hardware and projects are extra either way, and one person cannot cover every hour.

Get my Phoenix quoteArizona breach notice rule: notify affected residents within 45 days. The Attorney General and the Arizona Department of Homeland Security must also be notified when a breach involves more than 1,000 residents. - IT support
- IT support, when bought as a managed service, is an outside team that answers employee requests, fixes problems and maintains a company's computers, network and cloud accounts for a set monthly price rather than by the hour.
IT support and managed IT services costs in Phoenix
Phoenix businesses buying managed IT usually see per-user quotes in the $100 to $250 a month range that published provider guides describe 1. Hourly break-fix support typically runs $75 to $250, with emergencies at $300 or more 1. One provider's 2026 guide puts per-workstation pricing at $50 to $100 a month and servers at $100 to $400 16, which suits offices with shared machines.
On the staffing side, a network and computer systems administrator in the Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler metro earned a median $93,730 in May 2025 2, and a computer user support specialist $62,310 3. BLS put benefits at 30% of private employer compensation in June 2026 4. Applied to the Phoenix median, a sysadmin costs about $133,900 a year with benefits, by our calculation.
The table shows the result for 25 people: the managed range sits at a fraction of one loaded hire. The bigger decision is which tier to buy. See our managed IT pricing guide for what each tier should include.
Phoenix's business base: health care, manufacturing and a chip investment
Maricopa County is a big small-business market. It had 109,863 establishments in 2023, including 23,866 with 10 to 49 employees and 5,984 with 50 to 249 5. It also had 2,060 establishments in computer systems design and related services 6, a category that includes MSPs but also software and consulting firms.
The job mix is broad. In August 2026 the metro counted 428,800 education and health services jobs, 389,000 professional and business services jobs, 206,900 financial activities jobs and 148,100 manufacturing jobs, out of 2,463,800 nonfarm jobs (preliminary) 7. HUD lists the State of Arizona, Banner Health and Amazon as the largest employers and describes TSMC's semiconductor project as the largest foreign direct investment in U.S. history, at $65 billion as of its report, with more than 6,000 permanent jobs expected 8.
For small firms that sell to large manufacturers or other big customers, the practical issue is supplier security. Large customers often send security questionnaires before granting access to portals or sites, and a supplier that cannot show MFA, patching and backups is at a disadvantage. Our manufacturing IT guide covers plant networks and supplier requirements.

Get my Phoenix quoteArizona rules: a breach law, but no general privacy law
Arizona has no comprehensive consumer data privacy law in force or enacted as of October 2026 10. That makes the state simpler than California next door, but it does not mean there are no rules.
Arizona's breach statute requires businesses to notify affected individuals within 45 days after determining a breach occurred 9. If more than 1,000 people must be notified, three more parties must hear about it 9:
-
The three largest nationwide consumer reporting agencies.
-
The Attorney General, in writing.
-
The Director of the Arizona Department of Homeland Security, in writing.
Picture a Tempe parts supplier that determines on May 1 that an intruder copied payroll and customer files covering 1,400 people. Notices to those people are due by June 15, and because the count is over 1,000, the written notices to the Attorney General and the homeland security director, plus the consumer reporting agency notices, belong in the same plan 9. A supplier to a large manufacturer may also owe its customer notice under contract, so check the supply agreement as well.
Federal rules still apply by industry. Health providers follow HIPAA, and non-bank lenders, mortgage brokers and tax preparers follow the FTC Safeguards Rule. Firms with California customers may meet that state's thresholds even from a Phoenix office. Check with counsel before relying on any of this for your firm.
Cybersecurity services in Phoenix
Arizonans filed 28,868 complaints with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center in 2025, seventh among states, and their $631 million in reported losses ranked sixth 11. These are complaints, not unique victims, and many incidents go unreported.
For Phoenix suppliers, the bigger concern is often what a breach does to a customer relationship. The 2026 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report found third-party involvement in 48% of breaches and vulnerability exploitation as the top entry point at 31% 12. The cybersecurity services that address both are patch management with reporting, endpoint detection and response, MFA, and a periodic outside test. A security firm's 2026 guide puts a small external network penetration test at $5,000 to $10,000 13. Our small business cybersecurity guide explains how to prioritize. If an attack is in progress, contact your cyber insurer's hotline if you have coverage, file with the FBI at ic3.gov and do not wipe machines before evidence is preserved.
IT consulting in Phoenix and co-managed options
IT consulting is the right buy in Phoenix when the need is a project rather than ongoing support: opening a new site, moving to Microsoft 365, or answering a large customer's security questionnaire. A 2026 migration cost guide puts external consultant labor at $150 to $250 an hour 14. Our IT consulting page explains how to scope a project. Firms with an internal IT person can instead buy co-managed IT; one provider's published 2026 estimate is $45 to $175 per user per month 15, explained in our co-managed IT guide.
Choosing an IT company in Phoenix
The Phoenix metro is spread out, so on-site coverage is the first thing to test. Ask which parts of the Valley a provider covers without travel charges and how quickly a technician can reach your site. A firm with an office in Phoenix and a shop in Chandler or Goodyear should get both addresses written into the service area, and should ask how summer heat events that knock out power or cooling are handled on site. If you have offices in Las Vegas, San Diego or Orange County, ask how those are handled. Then ask how the provider supports supplier security questionnaires and Arizona's 45-day breach deadline. Our MSP selection guide has a full list of questions, and our managed IT services overview explains standard scope.
Common questions
How much does IT support cost in Phoenix?
What does an IT employee cost in Phoenix?
Does Arizona have a data privacy law for businesses?
What cybersecurity do Phoenix manufacturing suppliers need?
Expect customers to ask about MFA, patching, endpoint protection, backups and vendor access controls. Third parties were involved in 48% of breaches in the 2026 Verizon report 12, so large buyers check suppliers closely.
When should a Phoenix business hire an IT consultant instead of an MSP?
Hire a consultant for a defined project such as an office move, migration or security review. External consultant labor runs $150 to $250 an hour in a 2026 guide 14. Use an MSP when you need ongoing support.
How do I choose a managed service provider in Phoenix?
Confirm on-site coverage for your part of the Valley, ask how the provider handles incidents and breach notices, and get exit terms in writing. Compare at least two written proposals with the same scope.
