Managed IT Services in Irvine

Irvine companies usually see managed IT services quoted at $100 to $250 a month for each employee supported, the band in providers' 2026 pricing guides 12. With 799 firms in Irvine's ZIP codes that Census filed under computer systems design in 2023 3, buyers have a wide field and should compare providers on security depth as much as on price.

Plan prices are one provider's published 2026 tiers (Strategic Micro Systems, Managed IT Services Cost Per User: A 2026 Pricing Guide). The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA: $106,290) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). California breach notice rule: notify affected residents within 30 days. The Attorney General must also be notified when a breach involves more than 500 residents. The full rule and statute link are in our California data breach notification law guide.

Penetration test
A penetration test is an authorized, simulated attack in which an outside tester tries to break into a company's systems the way a criminal would, then reports what got through and how to fix it.

Managed IT services in Irvine: what firms pay

Most 2026 guides use that per-employee band 12. One provider sets the top of the typical US range higher, at $150 to $400 per user for full plans 12, and contracts that bundle security operations and compliance reporting sit toward that upper end.

Irvine has no wage series of its own. The BLS figures republished on O*NET stop at the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro level. Across that metro, systems administrators had a May 2025 median of $106,290, and user support specialists $75,070 45. Private employers spend 30% of compensation on benefits 9, so in our math that administrator costs about $151,800 a year all in, double what even premium managed pricing charges for 25 people.

The more useful Irvine comparison is between managed IT alone and managed IT plus security leadership. Firms that sell to large companies tend to receive detailed security questionnaires, and someone has to own the answers. The table above adds those lines together; the tier-by-tier detail is in our managed IT pricing guide.

IT services for Irvine's tech and medical device employers

Irvine leans toward mid-sized offices. Census counts for the nine ZIP codes that make up most of Irvine show 14,869 establishments in 2023, with 2,853 employing 10 to 49 people and 911 employing 50 to 249 3. That puts about 6.1% of Irvine establishments in the 50 to 249 band, against about 4.5% for Orange County overall, which had 4,765 such establishments out of 106,961 (our calculation) 6. ZIP boundaries do not match city limits, so the Irvine figures are approximate.

The employer list explains the IT demand. The City's 2024 financial report ranks the University of California, Irvine first with 28,546 workers, followed by Peraton State and Local (17,000) and Irvine Unified School District (5,573) 7. Below them, the top 10 leans toward medical device, technology and engineering firms: Edwards Lifesciences, Blizzard Entertainment, Olsson, B. Braun Medical, The Haskell Company, Western Digital Technologies and Panasonic Avionics 7. UC Irvine also runs six hospitals and enrolled 37,268 students in fall 2025 8.

Around those anchors sit the companies that buy managed IT: component suppliers, contract engineers, software studios, clinics, and the law, accounting and real estate offices that serve them. What they share is a need for proof. Customers, auditors and partners ask for documented controls, and an Irvine provider should help produce that evidence, not just keep laptops running.

California breach notice and privacy rules for Irvine companies

An Irvine company has 30 calendar days to notify affected California residents after it discovers or is told of a breach, a fixed clock in force since January 1, 2026 13. A breach that triggers notices to more than 500 Californians also means filing a sample notice with the Attorney General within 15 calendar days after the consumer letters go out 13. Two features matter for Irvine's device and tech firms:

  • Encryption helps. Encrypted data falls outside the notice duty unless the key or credential that unlocks it was also taken 13, so full-disk encryption on laptops can turn a stolen bag into a non-event.
  • Customers can sue. Any customer injured by a violation of the breach statute may file a civil action for damages 14.

The CCPA reaches for-profit businesses doing business in California that exceed $26,625,000 in annual gross revenue or meet one of two tests tied to buying, selling or sharing personal information 15. A 150-person device supplier can sit above that revenue line without thinking of itself as a data business. Our California breach law summary gives the full rule; confirm your own obligations with counsel.

Cybersecurity companies and security services in Irvine

Irvine firms tend to buy security in three pieces: watching, testing and leading. Watching means managed detection and response, published at $8 to $25 per endpoint per month for mainstream offerings 16. Testing means a penetration test, which one firm prices at $5,000 to $10,000 for a small external network 11 and another at $5,000 to $30,000 for a web application 17. Leading means a vCISO, with one provider's retainers at roughly $1,500 to $4,000 monthly for companies under 50 employees and $3,000 to $7,000 for 50 to 200 10.

A separate cybersecurity company makes sense for testing, because the firm that runs your systems should not be the one grading them. Monitoring often fits inside the managed IT contract. California logged 116,414 IC3 complaints in 2025, the most of any state, with $3.67 billion in reported losses 18.

Vendors serving UC Irvine's hospitals or other health providers also answer to HIPAA. A business associate has to report a breach of patient data to the covered entity no later than 60 calendar days after discovery 19. Our HIPAA compliance services guide and cybersecurity guide for small businesses cover the controls.

Co-managed IT and consulting for Irvine's in-house IT teams

Co-managed IT fits the Irvine company whose IT manager has more work than one person can cover but not enough to justify a department. The provider brings tooling, after-hours monitoring and escalation, and staff keep ownership of users and business systems. Meriplex's 2026 pricing article puts co-managed plans between $45 and $175 per user each month, the top tier including a security operations center 20. Our page on co-managed IT covers how to divide the work.

Common Irvine consulting projects include preparing for a customer security audit, building a CCPA data map, wiring an office build-out and reviewing a Microsoft 365 tenant. Cloudiway's 2026 cost guide lists external consultants at $150 to $250 an hour 21.

Questions to ask a managed service provider in Irvine

Irvine has hundreds of IT services firms, so cut the list by asking for proof of security work before comparing prices. Put these to each candidate:

  • Can you show a completed security questionnaire or audit package you prepared for a client, with names removed?
  • Who on your team leads security, and is vCISO time included or billed apart?
  • If we touch patient records for a clinic or hospital client, will you sign a HIPAA business associate agreement?
  • How do you record admin access, and what do we receive if we leave?

Companies with sites elsewhere should ask about coverage in Orange County, Long Beach and Riverside. Our guide to choosing an MSP has a longer checklist, and the managed IT services hub explains how contracts are built.

Common questions

What do Irvine companies pay for managed IT services?

Most quotes fall at $100 to $250 per employee monthly in 2026 provider guides 12. Plans with security operations and compliance reporting can run higher, up to $400 per user in one provider's guide 12.

How much does IT support cost in Irvine for a 25-person office?

At published rates, $30,000 to $75,000 annually for managed IT 12. A part-time vCISO adds about $18,000 to $48,000 a year for a firm under 50 people, based on one provider's published pricing 10.

What does a managed service provider in Irvine do?

It takes on routine technology work under contract, such as answering staff tickets, managing devices, patching, checking backups and running security tools. In Irvine, buyers should also expect help documenting controls for customer security reviews.

Should I hire a cybersecurity company in Irvine or use my MSP?

Use your MSP for daily protection such as endpoint monitoring, and bring in an independent firm for penetration testing. Published pen test prices start around $5,000 for a small external network 11.

Does California's breach law apply if our laptops are encrypted?

Encrypted data is exempt from notice unless the key or credential to read it was also acquired 13. Full-disk encryption on every laptop is one of the cheapest ways to shrink breach exposure.

Is there Irvine-specific wage data for IT staff?

No. The BLS data covers the whole Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro, where systems administrators earned a median $106,290 in May 2025 4. Irvine pay may differ from that metro figure.
