The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA: $106,290) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). This is our calculation. Licenses, hardware and projects are extra either way, and one person cannot cover every hour.

- Managed service provider (MSP)
- An MSP, or managed service provider, is an outside firm that takes over for a company's day-to-day technology, from user help and device upkeep to monitoring, backups and security, in return for a recurring fee set by contract.
IT support costs in Long Beach
Most Long Beach businesses buy a managed plan billed per employee, at the per-head rates noted above 12. Companies that phone only when something breaks are billed hourly, commonly $75 to $250, and $300 or more for an emergency 1.
Broken into monthly per-user terms, the in-house route looks expensive for a small office. The wage data here covers the whole Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro, because the BLS figures on O*NET include no separate Long Beach series. Across that metro, a systems administrator's median pay was $106,290 in May 2025 and a user support specialist's $75,070 45. Benefits were 30% of private employers' compensation costs in June 2026 9; layer them on and one administrator costs about $151,800 annually in our estimate. Divide by 25 staff and 12 months and you get roughly $506 a head each month, two to five times the managed range, and it buys one person with no backup.
Our managed IT cost explainer lists what belongs in each price tier.
Port trade, Space Beach and Long Beach's business base
Long Beach is a city of small and mid-sized employers built around a working port. Census counts for the 12 ZIP codes that make up most of the city show 9,761 business establishments in 2023, including 2,108 with 10 to 49 employees and 472 with 50 to 249 3. ZIP lines do not follow city limits exactly, so treat these as close estimates rather than exact city totals.
The port drives much of that activity. It handled 9,881,595 TEUs in 2025, a record 6, and the port's 2019 economic impact study tied 51,090 jobs in Long Beach to port activity, one in five jobs in the city 7. Customs brokers, freight forwarders, drayage carriers and warehouse operators share a set of IT needs:
- Email and accounting systems hardened against fake invoices and changed bank details, since freight payments move fast and in large amounts.
- Support hours that match terminal and yard schedules rather than a 9 to 5 office.
- Reliable access to carrier, customs and client portals, with a separate login for each employee.
Aerospace is the newer layer. Cal State Long Beach describes a "Space Beach" cluster with office space used by Boeing and Northrop Grumman as well as Rocket Lab, SpinLaunch and Wisk 8. Small engineering shops and suppliers that work for defense primes can inherit federal security clauses through their contracts, covered below.

Get my Long Beach quoteCalifornia breach rules and the CCPA in Long Beach
Since January 1, 2026, California has allowed 30 calendar days from discovery for notice to affected residents 10. A breach involving more than 500 Californians also means uploading a sample of the notice to the Attorney General's online form, within 15 calendar days of notifying consumers 1011.
Picture a freight forwarder whose shared mailbox is taken over and used to read shipping files containing importers' contact and payment details. Discovery starts the clock. Delay is allowed only for law enforcement needs or the time it takes to determine the scope of the breach and restore the system 10; counsel should confirm your timing. What IT needs to have in place is mailbox audit logging switched on before anything happens, so the firm can tell quickly which messages were opened and whose data was in them. Read the whole rule in our California breach law summary.
The California Consumer Privacy Act applies to for-profit businesses that meet any one of three tests. One is annual gross revenue above $26,625,000; the other two concern buying, selling or sharing personal information 12. Import and distribution firms can pass that revenue line with a modest headcount, so ask counsel to confirm whether you are covered.
Cybersecurity services for Long Beach logistics and aerospace firms
Payment fraud is the first risk a Long Beach freight or aerospace firm should plan for. FBI data puts 2025 business email compromise losses at about $3.05 billion across the US 13. Coalition's 2026 claims report found that email takeovers and fraudulent wire transfers together accounted for 58% of its policyholders' incidents 14. Californians filed more IC3 complaints than any other state in 2025, 116,414 of them, with $3.67 billion in reported losses 13.
For a freight business, the baseline is MFA on every mailbox, an email security filter and endpoint detection and response. Then write down a rule: a carrier or customer asking to change bank details gets a phone call back on the number you already had, before anyone updates a payment.
Aerospace suppliers have a second set of rules. Any supplier holding covered defense information falls under DFARS 252.204-7012, which means NIST SP 800-171 controls and a 72-hour window, counted from discovery, to report cyber incidents to DoD 16. As for CMMC, DoD stopped Phase 2 on July 13, 2026 (it had been due November 10, 2026), and the program sits in Phase 1 with no new date 15. Self-assessments continue and dates could move. Current status is on our CMMC page, and cybersecurity for small businesses covers the baseline controls and what they cost.
Managed service provider or co-managed IT in Long Beach
A full managed service provider suits most Long Beach offices under about 50 people. Larger firms, and port-related companies that already employ an IT coordinator, often keep that person and buy a co-managed contract for monitoring, patching, security tools and night coverage. Co-managed work runs $45 to $175 a head monthly in Meriplex's 2026 published range, climbing as scope grows 17. The usual division of duties is described on our co-managed IT services page.
One-off work, such as a warehouse Wi-Fi refresh, a move to Microsoft 365 or a NIST SP 800-171 gap review for an aerospace supplier, is usually quoted separately. Outside consultants bill $150 to $250 hourly in one 2026 migration cost guide 18.
Choosing IT services in Long Beach and on-site coverage
Pick a Long Beach provider on coverage first: who answers after hours, and how quickly a technician can reach your office or yard. In 2023 the 12 core ZIP codes had at least 131 establishments coded by Census as computer systems design and related services 3. Software houses and consultancies are part of that figure, so the real number of day-to-day help desk providers is lower. Questions to put to each candidate:
- Who answers at 2 a.m. when a dispatch or yard system stops, and is that time in the contract?
- How far away is your nearest technician, and what does a site visit add to the bill?
- How would you help us meet California's 30-day notice deadline?
- Have you supported suppliers working toward NIST SP 800-171?
If you also have staff in Los Angeles, Orange County or Irvine, ask whether one provider can cover each site at the same rate. Our MSP evaluation guide adds contract questions, and the main managed IT services page links every metro we cover.
Common questions
What is the going rate for IT support in Long Beach?
What does a managed service provider in Long Beach do?
It takes on the daily IT load in exchange for a fixed fee: answering staff, watching devices and the network, patching, backups, security tooling and planning. For port and logistics firms, the contract should also spell out after-hours coverage, since many operations keep running past 5 p.m.
Is hiring an IT person cheaper than managed IT services in Long Beach?
How quickly must a Long Beach business report a data breach?
Does CMMC apply to Long Beach aerospace suppliers yet?
Not as a certification, for now. DoD froze CMMC rollout at Phase 1 in July 2026, so outside assessments are not being required 15. Self-assessments are still expected, and any contract carrying DFARS 252.204-7012 keeps its NIST SP 800-171 and 72-hour reporting terms 16. Check your contracts, since the schedule may change.
What IT services do Long Beach logistics companies need most?
Email security and payment verification come first, because email takeovers and wire fraud were 58% of incidents in Coalition's 2026 claims data 14. After that: endpoint protection, tested backups and support hours that match the operation.
