The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX: $103,260) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). This is our calculation. Licenses, hardware and projects are extra either way, and one person cannot cover every hour.

- Solo IT consultant
- A solo IT consultant is a one-person IT business that fixes problems and runs projects for clients, usually billed by the hour, without the staffed help desk, after-hours monitoring and backup technicians that a managed service provider supplies under a monthly contract.
Managed IT services in Frisco: costs against a local hire
Managed IT at the published per-seat band 12 costs a 25-person Frisco office $2,500 to $6,250 a month, or $30,000 to $75,000 across twelve months, well below the cost of one local systems administrator. Frisco firms that skip a contract pay hourly instead, at published rates from $75 up to $250 1.
No wage series exists for Frisco alone, so the comparison relies on Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington figures, the same metro series that covers Plano and Dallas. Metro-wide, systems administrators earned a $103,260 median in May 2025 and help desk technicians (BLS's user support specialists) $60,710 35, against $99,130 for administrators nationally 7. Benefits take three of every ten dollars private employers spend on compensation 6, so the administrator's salary divided by 0.70 gives roughly $147,500, our estimate of the full annual cost.
Spent on managed IT instead, that loaded figure covers about 49 users at $250 a seat or about 123 at $100, and a single hire leaves nobody covering vacations. See what Frisco-sized contracts include at each tier.
Frisco's business base, ZIP by ZIP
Census County Business Patterns for 2023, summed across the four ZIP codes that make up most of the city (75033, 75034, 75035 and 75036), count 7,175 establishments: 1,311 with 10 to 49 workers on payroll and 263 with 50 to 249 4. ZIP lines do not follow city limits, and Frisco also reaches into Denton County. Edge ZIPs shared with Prosper, Little Elm, McKinney and Plano were left out, so read these totals as approximate.
The IT count overstates local support capacity. Those four ZIPs hold 1,026 establishments under NAICS 5415, the Census code covering computer systems design 4, about one in seven local businesses. Many are not support companies at all. In 75035 alone, 501 of the 527 such establishments have fewer than five employees 19, nearly half of the city-wide count, and many appear to be one-person consultancies registered at home addresses. Software developers fall in the same category. Firms that can staff a help desk, answer an alert at 2 a.m. and send a technician the same day make up a far shorter list.

Get my Frisco quoteIT support for Frisco's headquarters, R&D hubs and health employers
Frisco's larger employers set the IT expectations for the small firms around them. The city's 2025 financial report names Frisco ISD, Baylor Medical Center, AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group, Integrated Commercialization Solutions, Keurig Dr Pepper, HCL Technologies and the Dallas Cowboys among its principal employers 8. The same report puts computer and mathematical jobs at 13.2% of the city's occupational mix, second only to management at 19.6% 8. The economic development corporation lists innovation and R&D centers run by Comerica, T-Mobile, Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions and Keurig Dr Pepper 9, and counted 16 corporate headquarters and major expansions in 2022 that created nearly 6,000 jobs 18.
Three kinds of local demand follow from that mix:
- Satellite offices of big companies. A regional or innovation office often has corporate IT rules but no IT person in the building. Co-managed IT fills that gap without replacing the parent company's tools.
- Pharmaceutical distribution and hospital work. Specialty drug distributors and a Baylor hospital campus support billing firms, couriers, staffing agencies and clinics that touch patient data. A provider serving them needs to put HIPAA business associate terms in writing; see HIPAA compliance services.
- Technically fluent buyers. With computer occupations so common locally 8, many owners will want admin access and documentation; pick a provider comfortable sharing both.
Texas breach and privacy law for Frisco businesses
Texas gives a Frisco company 60 days, counted from the moment it determines a breach took place, to reach the people affected, with no unreasonable delay along the way 10. Once 250 Texans or more are in the affected group, the Attorney General's online form is due inside 30 days of that same determination 1011. Mailing over 10,000 notices brings in the consumer reporting agencies as well 10.
One detail matters for Frisco's vendor-heavy economy. A company that only maintains data on behalf of another business owes the data's owner word of a breach immediately after spotting it 10. An agency or software vendor holding a client's customer list cannot sit on the news, because the client's own clock depends on it.
Texas's broad privacy statute (the TDPSA), live since July 1, 2024, reaches companies too big to count as small by SBA standards; SBA-small firms still owe consumers a consent request before any sale of sensitive data 12. SB 2610 (September 1, 2025) protects Texas employers below 250 staff from exemplary damages if a compliant security program, for instance one aligned to the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, was running when the breach hit 13. IC3 logged 97,912 Texas complaints for 2025 and $1.83 billion in losses 14. The Texas notice statute in full is summarized on our state page, and a Texas attorney can tell you which parts reach your firm.
Frisco cybersecurity: protect logins before devices
Frisco firms should lock down logins before buying more device tools, because compromised identities sit behind most ransomware. In Sophos's 2026 ransomware study of organizations with 100 to 5,000 staff, 79% of attacks traced back to compromised identities 15. Malicious email (26%) and phishing (24%) led the root causes, and recovery averaged $1.7 million 15. Smaller Frisco firms face the same entry points.
A practical first round of security work:
- MFA on email, remote access and every admin account, with stronger methods for administrators
- Removal of shared logins and former employees' accounts, checked monthly
- Managed detection and response on each laptop and server; mainstream services list for $8 to $25 per device monthly 16
- Email filtering plus a call-back rule before anyone changes payment details
- Backups kept apart from everyday logins and restored at least once a quarter
Each item is explained in security basics, ranked for small firms, and 24/7 detection and response covers round-the-clock monitoring.
Choosing a Frisco provider: solo consultant or full MSP
Decide first whether you need a person or a team. A solo consultant can suit a five-person office with simple needs. Past about 15 staff, or once clients send security questionnaires, one person cannot cover a holiday week, watch alerts overnight and run a project at once.
Questions that separate the two:
- How many technicians would work on our account, and who covers when our main contact is away?
- Who watches security alerts after hours, your own staff or a subcontractor?
- How quickly can someone reach our Frisco office, and what does a visit cost?
- Will you give us admin passwords and network notes whenever we ask?
Frisco teams with one IT employee can bolt on co-managed help for monitoring and backup; Meriplex's 2026 estimate runs from $45 to $175 a seat monthly, depending on scope 17. Contract terms get their own walk-through in picking an MSP without regrets. Plano and Dallas draw on the same metro wage series as this page, Irving rounds out the DFW cities we cover, and our list of covered cities has the rest.
Common questions
What is the going rate for managed IT services in Frisco?
Does outsourced IT support in Frisco cost less than an in-house hire?
Why does Frisco have so many IT services firms?
Census counts 1,026 computer systems design establishments in Frisco's four main ZIP codes for 2023, but many are tiny: in 75035 alone, 501 of 527 have fewer than five employees 19, nearly half the total. Many are very small consultancies, and the category includes software developers, so far fewer can run a staffed help desk.
What does a Frisco managed service provider handle day to day?
The help desk, patching, monitoring, backups, security tools and vendor wrangling, all for one monthly fee. Frisco branches of larger companies often pick co-managed support instead, which Meriplex prices at $45 to $175 a seat each month 17.
How long does a Frisco company get to send breach notices?
Are IT services in Frisco different from Plano or Dallas?
Published prices are the same, and wages come from the same Dallas-Fort Worth metro series 3. The difference is the local mix. Frisco hosts innovation and R&D offices for Comerica, T-Mobile and Keurig Dr Pepper 9 and a large pool of very small IT firms 4, so check a provider's staffing depth before signing.
