Plan prices are one provider's published 2026 tiers (Strategic Micro Systems, Managed IT Services Cost Per User: A 2026 Pricing Guide). The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, FL: $97,180) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). This is our calculation. Licenses, hardware and projects are extra either way, and one person cannot cover every hour.

IT services
Business IT services are the outside support a company buys to run and protect its technology, ranging from hourly repairs to a full monthly managed contract covering help desk, devices, cloud accounts, backups and security.

IT support and managed IT costs in Fort Lauderdale

The typical Fort Lauderdale quote for full managed IT is $100 to $250 per user per month, the range in 2026 provider pricing guides 12. A 15-person office would pay $1,500 to $3,750 a month; a 50-person firm $5,000 to $12,500.

Some small offices still buy IT support by the hour. Published break-fix rates run $75 to $250 an hour, and $300 or more for an emergency call 1. That works for a very small office with few systems, but costs become unpredictable once you have servers, compliance duties or more than a handful of staff.

South Florida wages are close to the national level: $97,180 for systems administrators and $60,500 for help desk specialists in May 2025, versus $99,130 and $61,860 nationally 3689. Our managed IT pricing guide explains what each tier includes.

Broward County's business base

Broward County is a market of small and mid-sized firms. It had 68,191 business establishments in 2023, including 10,286 with 10 to 49 employees and 2,326 with 50 to 249 4.

The county also had 1,295 computer systems design and related services establishments 4. With that many options, compare written scopes and contract terms side by side.

Most of those potential clients are small. Of the 10,286 Broward establishments with 10 to 49 employees, 5,931 had fewer than 20 4. An office that size rarely justifies a full-time IT hire, and it is the group most likely to still be buying support by the hour.

In August 2026 (preliminary), professional and business services employed 171,400 people in the Fort Lauderdale division, education and health services 126,400 and financial activities 71,200 10. Law firms, accounting practices, property managers and wealth advisers all fall in those groups. See our pages for law firms and accounting firms.

Healthcare in Broward and HIPAA

Broward's hospital systems create a large network of HIPAA-regulated businesses. They include Memorial Healthcare System, one of the largest public systems in the nation, Broward Health with more than 30 locations, HCA with four hospitals and 17 freestanding ERs, and Cleveland Clinic Florida 11.

Around them are independent practices, dental offices, labs, billing firms and home health agencies. Each needs a documented risk analysis, and any IT provider with access to patient data must sign a business associate agreement. HHS enforcement has reached small practices, including a $10,000 settlement with Northeast Surgical Group in 2025 12.

A proposed update to the HIPAA Security Rule would add MFA, encryption and annual compliance audits, but it remains a proposal and the current rule stays in effect 1314. See our HIPAA compliance services guide and dental office IT page.

Florida's 30-day breach rule

Florida gives businesses 30 days from determining a breach to notify affected residents, with up to 15 more days only for written good cause 5. The Department of Legal Affairs must also hear about any breach affecting 500 or more Floridians within the same 30 days 5.

For a Broward medical practice, a breach can start two clocks. Florida's 30-day state deadline runs alongside the HIPAA Breach Notification Rule, which allows no more than 60 days to notify patients 21. Plan around the shorter one. If the practice's IT vendor finds the breach, HIPAA gives that business associate up to 60 days to tell the practice 21, so your business associate agreement should require faster notice than the rule does.

Section 501.171 also obliges covered entities to take reasonable steps to secure electronic personal information 5. Florida's Digital Bill of Rights applies only to companies with $1 billion or more in revenue that also meet a narrow tech test, so it does not reach typical Broward businesses 15.

Thirty days is tight if you have no logs, no incident plan and no forensic contact. Floridians filed 71,843 FBI IC3 complaints in 2025, the third-highest count of any state, and reported about $1.60 billion in losses 16.

Cybersecurity services in Fort Lauderdale

For Fort Lauderdale professional firms, wire fraud and email takeover are the threats to fund first. Any firm that moves client money for real estate closings, legal settlements or investment transfers is a target, and business email compromise drove about $3.05 billion in losses reported to the FBI nationwide in 2025 16.

Start with MFA everywhere (Microsoft research measured a 99.22% cut in compromise risk 17), email security, a call-back rule for payment changes, endpoint detection and response, and backups tested by restoring. Cyber insurers look for the same controls 18; small business premiums ran a median $129 a month for Insureon customers 19. Our cybersecurity for small business guide and cyber insurance requirements page go further.

IT consulting, co-managed IT and choosing a Broward provider

Firms with an in-house IT person can add co-managed support for monitoring and security, which one provider prices at $45 to $175 per user per month for 2026 20. See co-managed IT. Project work is covered in our IT consulting guide.

Ask Fort Lauderdale providers:

  • What is in the monthly fee, and what is billed hourly?

  • Will you sign our business associate agreement, and how quickly will you tell us about a breach?

  • How do you help us meet Florida's 30-day deadline?

  • If a storm closes the office, can staff keep working remotely, and when can a technician come in to restore equipment? Use our guide to choosing an MSP to score the answers. For other South and Central Florida markets, see Miami, Orlando and Tampa, or browse the managed IT services directory.

Common questions

How much does IT support cost in Fort Lauderdale?

In Fort Lauderdale, managed IT support usually runs $100 to $250 per user per month based on 2026 provider guides 12. Hourly break-fix support runs $75 to $250 an hour, and emergency calls $300 or more 1.

How long does a Fort Lauderdale business have to report a data breach?

Thirty days from determining the breach, with up to 15 more days for written good cause 5. If at least 500 Floridians are involved, the business must also file with the Department of Legal Affairs before the 30 days run out 5. Confirm specifics with counsel.

Is hourly IT support or a managed plan better for a small Fort Lauderdale office?

Hourly support can work for a few users with simple needs. Once you have servers, regulated data or more than about 10 staff, a managed plan usually costs less over a year and includes the monitoring and patching that hourly support skips.

Do I need an IT company in Fort Lauderdale itself, or will a remote provider do?

A remote provider can resolve most tickets, but network gear, office moves and storm recovery all call for someone on site. Ask each provider how it handles on-site work in Broward County and what its hurricane plan is.

Does my Broward medical or dental practice need HIPAA-specific IT support?

Yes. You need a documented risk analysis and a business associate agreement with any IT provider that can access patient data, and enforcement reaches small practices 12. Our HIPAA compliance checklist is a starting point.
