The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Greenville-Anderson-Greer, SC: $95,740) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs must also be notified when a breach involves more than 1,000 residents. - Managed detection and response (MDR)
- MDR, or managed detection and response, means outsourced threat watching: a provider's analysts track alerts from a company's laptops, servers and cloud accounts at all hours and step in to stop an attack, usually for a monthly fee per endpoint.
Managed IT services in Greenville: pricing and pay
Full-service quotes in Greenville track that per-worker band from 2026 guides 12. Uncontracted work costs $75 to $250 per hour, rising to $300 or more for an emergency 1.
Greenville's IT pay has a wide gap between entry and senior roles. The Greenville-Anderson-Greer median for a computer user support specialist was $51,880 in May 2025, about $10,000 below the national $61,860, while systems administrators earned $95,740, near the national $99,130 3467. Loaded with benefits at the BLS 30% share 5, those come to about $74,100 and $136,800 a year, our calculation.
A local technician for desk-side help is affordable here. Server, network and security work is where a provider's bench earns its fee. Many Greenville firms pair the two, which our co-managed IT guide explains. For tier-by-tier scope, see our managed IT pricing guide.
IT support for Greenville's manufacturers and health system
Manufacturing gives Greenville its IT profile. In August 2026 the metro had 61,900 manufacturing jobs out of 488,100 nonfarm jobs, along with 79,300 in professional and business services, 70,500 in education and health services and 23,600 in financial activities (preliminary) 10. HUD notes the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center in Greenville houses more than 100 automotive, aerospace and advanced manufacturing companies 11. Michelin North America employs 5,500 people in the area 11. HUD also reported that manufacturing jobs fell by 1,800, or 2.9%, in the year it measured 11, so suppliers have reason to keep IT costs predictable.
Prisma Health is the area's largest employer with 14,700 workers, followed by Clemson University (6,200) 11. Practices, labs and billing firms around Prisma handle patient data under HIPAA.
Greenville County counted 15,493 business establishments in 2023, among them 3,562 with 10 to 49 employees and 777 with 50 to 249 8. Census put 257 county businesses in computer systems design and related services 9, and software and engineering firms account for part of that, not only support shops. Our manufacturing IT guide covers supplier needs in more detail.

Get my Greenville quoteSupplier security reviews and cybersecurity services in Greenville
For a Greenville supplier, cybersecurity services start with the controls a large customer's security review asks about. Third parties played a part in 48% of breaches in Verizon's 2026 DBIR, and exploited vulnerabilities led all entry points at 31% 17. Large manufacturers respond by asking suppliers about patching, MFA, endpoint protection, backups and vendor access.
Managed detection and response answers several of those questions at once. As the table shows, covering 25 devices with mainstream MDR runs $2,400 to $7,500 a year 16. Customers may also ask for an outside test; a security firm's 2026 guide puts small external network penetration tests at $5,000 to $10,000 18.
Keep the evidence. A supplier that can send a patch report, an MFA policy and a restore test result usually finishes a questionnaire faster. See our managed detection and response page and cybersecurity guide for small business.
South Carolina insurance data rules and breach law
For a Greenville insurance agency, the state rule that bites first is the South Carolina Insurance Data Security Act. Insurers, agents and other licensees must run a written information security program built on a risk assessment, and once they determine a qualifying cybersecurity event happened, the Director of Insurance must hear about it within 72 hours 13. The written-program duty does not apply to licensees with fewer than 10 employees, independent contractors included 13. Our written information security plan page shows what such a program holds.
Most other businesses follow S.C. Code 39-1-90. Affected residents must be told as quickly as possible, and the statute gives no day count 12. The 1,000 trigger counts everyone in a single mailing, not only state residents; once it is crossed, the Department of Consumer Affairs and the national credit bureaus must receive details of the notice's timing, distribution and content 12. Data made unusable by encryption or redaction is outside the rule, a vendor holding your data must tell you right after it finds a breach, and banks under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act are not covered 12.
Fines scale with headcount. A knowing and willful violation costs $1,000 for each resident whose data was accessible, and injured residents may sue 12. If 400 South Carolina residents were exposed in such a violation, the fine alone would be $400,000.
There was still no broad South Carolina consumer privacy statute in October 2026 14. In 2025, 14,699 complaints from the state reached FBI IC3, reporting $264.1 million lost 15. See the South Carolina breach law page and confirm your duties with counsel.
Co-managed IT and consulting for Greenville firms
Greenville firms with a local technician on payroll often add a provider for monitoring, security tooling and escalation. Meriplex publishes $45 to $175 per worker monthly for that co-managed model in 2026, with the price climbing once a security operations layer is included 19. The internal technician stays the face of IT on site.
Supplier audits, network redesigns and Microsoft 365 moves usually go to consultants billing $150 to $250 hourly, per a 2026 guide 20. Our IT consulting page covers how to scope that work.
Choosing a Greenville managed service provider for supplier work
The Greenville provider worth hiring is the one that can hand you proof for a customer's security review. Ask:
- Have you helped a client complete an automotive or aerospace customer's supplier questionnaire?
- Do you include managed detection and response, or price it separately?
- For insurance agencies, will you help maintain the written program and meet the 72-hour notice?
- How quickly can a technician reach our plant or office, and what does it cost?
Exit and contract terms are covered in our MSP evaluation guide. Upstate firms with sites along the I-85 corridor can compare Charlotte and Atlanta, or Chattanooga to the west; our managed IT services hub links the rest.
Common questions
How much do Greenville businesses pay for managed IT services?
What does hourly IT support cost in Greenville?
What does a managed service provider in Greenville do for a supplier?
On a fixed monthly fee it handles employee tickets, applies updates, manages devices, checks backups and watches for attacks. For Greenville suppliers it should also produce the evidence manufacturers ask for in security reviews.
What does South Carolina require after a data breach?
Do Greenville insurance agencies need a written security program?
Yes, unless they have fewer than 10 employees. The state's Insurance Data Security Act calls for a written program based on a risk assessment and a report to the Director of Insurance within 72 hours of determining a qualifying event 13.
What cybersecurity services should a Greenville supplier buy first?
Start with MFA, reported patching, endpoint protection watched by an MDR team, and backups you have restored at least once. Mainstream MDR for 25 devices runs $2,400 to $7,500 a year 16, and those controls answer many common supplier questionnaire items.
