Plan prices are one provider's published 2026 tiers (Strategic Micro Systems, Managed IT Services Cost Per User: A 2026 Pricing Guide). The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Baton Rouge, LA: $97,770) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). Louisiana breach notice rule: notify affected residents within 60 days. The Attorney General, under an Attorney General rule, must also be notified of any breach. The full rule and statute link are in our Louisiana data breach notification law guide.

Managed detection and response (MDR)
MDR, or managed detection and response, is a security subscription, usually billed per endpoint or per user, in which a provider's analysts monitor a company's devices and accounts 24 hours a day, look into anything suspicious and step in to contain an attack.

Managed IT services in Baton Rouge: per-user and per-device pricing

Use that per-person band 12 as the yardstick for any Baton Rouge quote; at 40 people it means $48,000 to $120,000 a year. Device-based pricing is the other model: Kaseya's 2023 survey found $50 to $100 a device each month the most common band 8, which can suit a contractor with many shared field tablets.

Local pay for systems administrators is close to the national level. The Baton Rouge metro median for a systems administrator was $97,770 in May 2025, against $99,130 nationally 49, and a help desk specialist earned $53,900 7. Hire one of each and, benefits included, the pair costs about $216,700 annually in our math, almost three times what the priciest managed plan charges for 25 people.

Each pricing model is unpacked in our managed IT price guide.

IT services for Baton Rouge contractors, plants and state agencies

Most Baton Rouge IT services buyers work around one of three anchors: the petrochemical plants, the contractors that build and maintain them, and state government. HUD names petrochemical refining and exporting as the metro's primary industry. Its large employers include industrial contractor Turner Industries Group (11,500) and Exxon Mobil (6,000), which runs five manufacturing facilities within 14 miles of the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, alongside the LSU System (6,250) 10. As the state capital, Baton Rouge also has government as its largest payroll sector, at about 16% of jobs 10.

BLS counted 70,700 government jobs, 59,100 in construction and 31,700 in manufacturing in the metro in August 2026 (preliminary) 3. East Baton Rouge Parish had 12,542 business establishments in 2023, including 3,106 with 10 to 49 employees and 730 with 50 to 249 5.

In practice that produces three kinds of buyer:

  • Industrial and construction contractors with office staff, estimators and field crews who share devices and work from trailers on plant sites. Our construction IT guide covers job-site networks.
  • Engineering, inspection and staffing firms that serve the plants and handle client drawings and worker records.
  • Consultancies and vendors to state agencies, which often answer security questions in contracts and renewals.

Louisiana breach and privacy rules in Baton Rouge

Affected Louisiana residents must be told within 60 days of discovery at the outside 11. If a business delays past that, it must give the Attorney General written reasons within the 60 days 11. Separately, an AG rule requires written notice to the Consumer Protection Section within 10 days of notifying residents, whatever the number affected 12.

The harm exception comes with paperwork. A business may skip notice only if a reasonable investigation finds no reasonable likelihood of harm 11. It must keep that written finding for five years and send it to the AG within 30 days of a written request 11. Residents may sue for actual damages from a failure to notify on time 13. A contractor whose payroll system is hit should have its IT provider preserve logs from day one, because those records decide whether notice is owed. See our Louisiana breach notification page.

The Louisiana Data Privacy Act takes effect January 1, 2027 14. Its revenue test works on its own: a business with more than $25 million in annual revenue can be covered without meeting the 75,000-consumer test 14. Mid-sized contractors near that size should ask counsel now. Insurance agencies have their own rule: the Insurance Data Security Law requires a written security program, with exemptions for licensees under 25 employees, $5 million in revenue or $10 million in assets 15.

In 2025 the FBI's IC3 recorded $105.4 million in reported losses from Louisiana across 8,623 complaints 16.

Cybersecurity and MDR for Baton Rouge firms

For most Baton Rouge firms, the security spend that matters is watching endpoints and accounts after hours. A 2026 analysis prices mainstream MDR at $8 to $25 a month for each endpoint 17. An October 2026 index puts the wider MDR range at $9 to $75 per endpoint or user 18. A 40-device company at the mainstream range would pay about $320 to $1,000 a month by our arithmetic.

Field crews make identity the weak point. Coalition's 2026 claims report traced 58% of incidents to business email compromise or funds transfer fraud 19, and a contractor wiring money to subs and suppliers is an obvious target. Turn on MFA for every login and phone a known number before honoring new bank details. Service levels are compared in our managed detection and response explainer.

Consultants, co-managed IT and job-site support in Baton Rouge

For projects, Baton Rouge firms often hire IT consultants, whose rates one 2026 guide lists at $150 to $250 hourly 20. Typical jobs are a new office network or moving estimating and job-cost software to the cloud. Our IT consulting page covers scoping. A company with one IT employee can keep them and buy outside monitoring as co-managed IT, which Meriplex's 2026 estimate prices from $45 to $175 per person monthly 21.

By Census coding, 158 parish businesses did computer systems design and related services work in 2023 22, software developers included. Ask candidates whether they support field devices, how they reach a plant-site trailer, and whether they will help answer an owner's or agency's security questionnaire. Contract red flags are covered in how to choose an MSP. Contractors with crews in other cities can compare New Orleans, Houston and Memphis. Every other city links from the managed IT services hub.

Common questions

Monthly managed plans list at $100 to $250 per person in 2026 provider guides 12. Hourly rates are $150 to $250 for project consultants 20 and $75 to $250 for break-fix repairs 1.

What should a Baton Rouge contractor budget for IT support?

Office staff are usually priced per person, at $100 to $250 apiece each month in providers' 2026 guides 12. Shared field tablets usually go per device, and $50 to $100 a device monthly was the most common band in Kaseya's 2023 survey 8.

Which jobs does a managed service provider in Baton Rouge handle?

Routine work billed monthly: staff support, patching PCs and servers, backups, Microsoft 365 administration and core security. For a contractor it should also cover field tablets and the network in a site trailer. Many providers add MDR, which watches devices around the clock.

When must a Baton Rouge business tell the Louisiana Attorney General about a breach?

Within 10 days of notifying affected residents, under an AG rule that applies whatever the number affected 12. Resident notice itself is due no later than 60 days after discovery 11. Counsel can confirm how the rule applies to your business.

Does the Louisiana Data Privacy Act apply to my company?

Starting January 1, 2027, any one of three tests brings you in: more than $25 million in annual revenue; processing data on 75,000 or more consumers, households or devices; or 50% or more of revenue from selling data 1423. Confirm your status with counsel.
