Plan prices are one provider's published 2026 tiers (Strategic Micro Systems, Managed IT Services Cost Per User: A 2026 Pricing Guide). The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, Colorado Springs, CO: $101,850) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). Colorado breach notice rule: notify affected residents within 30 days. The Attorney General must also be notified when a breach involves 500 or more residents. The full rule and statute link are in our Colorado data breach notification law guide.

CUI enclave
A CUI enclave is a walled-off part of a company's IT environment, often a dedicated cloud tenant plus a few managed laptops, where all Controlled Unclassified Information lives, so that only that part rather than the whole business falls inside a CMMC Level 2 assessment.

Managed IT services in Colorado Springs: cost

Quotes in the Springs track that per-seat band 12, though security-heavy plans aimed at defense work can pass $300 a seat 4.

Local IT pay runs slightly above the national level. In May 2025, Colorado Springs systems administrators had a $101,850 median and user support specialists $59,930 56, while administrators nationally sat at $99,130 7. Since private employers spend 30% of compensation on benefits 8, one administrator comes to roughly $145,500 a year in our math. A dedicated security analyst costs more again: the national median salary is $129,180 9. For a firm under 50 people that payroll is hard to justify, which is where outsourced and co-managed models come in. Tiers are compared in how much managed IT costs.

Space, Army and the Colorado Springs contractor base

Fort Carson (26,315 active duty) and Peterson-Schriever Space Force Base (6,373 active duty) together have 32,688 active-duty personnel and a combined economic impact of $6.78 billion a year, according to the City of Fountain's 2024 military snapshot 10. Peterson-Schriever hosts Space Operations Command, Space Training and Readiness Command and Space Deltas 2 through 9 10.

A large contractor community grows up around that. In August 2026 (preliminary), professional and business services employed 55,000 people in the metro and government 54,500 11. El Paso County's 18,852 business establishments in 2023 included 3,898 with 10 to 49 employees and 825 with 50 to 249 3. Its 500 IT-coded firms include software, engineering and government IT contractors as well as support providers, so many of the firms buying IT here also sell it.

For a small government IT or engineering contractor, the core IT question is less about help desk tickets and more about scope: where controlled data lives, who can reach it, and how to prove both.

CUI enclaves, GCC High and CMMC in Colorado Springs

Many Colorado Springs contractors keep Controlled Unclassified Information in a separated enclave so that only that environment is assessed. DoD's Level 2 scoping guide treats assets that are physically or logically separated from CUI assets as out of scope, and inside an enclave the company decides which requirements it implements itself and which it inherits 12. Microsoft offers GCC High for contractors that hold DoD CUI or ITAR data; it is sold only after Microsoft validates eligibility, and no trials are available 13. Any cloud service holding covered defense information must meet security equivalent to the FedRAMP Moderate baseline 14.

If an MSP manages any part of it, its role belongs in your system security plan along with a service description and a customer responsibility matrix showing who handles each control 15.

CMMC certification is on pause. When DoD halted Phase 2 on July 13, 2026, the program stayed in Phase 1: self-assessments carry on, and the department says it still enforces NIST SP 800-171 Rev 2 16. During the pause the ceiling for any contract is Level 1 (Self) or Level 2 (Self) 17. Dates could move again, so see our GCC High guide, CMMC Level 2 page and CMMC overview, and have counsel review your contract terms.

Colorado breach and privacy rules for Colorado Springs firms

Colorado has a 30-day breach notice deadline. The statute wants residents told in the most expedient time possible, and the business has 30 days at the outside from determining a breach occurred 18. If another state or federal rule that applies sets a shorter deadline, the shorter one controls 18. Affecting 500 or more Colorado residents adds the Attorney General to the 30-day list, and notifying more than 1,000 adds the consumer reporting agencies 1819. No notice is needed if a prompt, good-faith investigation finds misuse has not occurred and is not reasonably likely to 18.

For a defense contractor, the state clock is the slower one. Under its DoD contract clause (DFARS 252.204-7012), the company has 72 hours from discovery to file a cyber incident report with the department 14, a separate obligation that runs in parallel with Colorado's.

Since July 1, 2023 the Colorado Privacy Act has reached any business processing data on 100,000 or more Colorado consumers a year, or 25,000 if it earns revenue or discounts from selling data; there is no separate small-business exemption 20. State law also requires reasonable security procedures sized to the data and the business 21. Coloradans filed 18,847 FBI IC3 complaints in 2025 and reported $355.0 million in losses 22. See our Colorado breach law page.

Cybersecurity services in Colorado Springs start with identity

Identity controls come first for contractors here, because attackers and assessors both focus on them. In Sophos's 2026 survey, compromised identities were the starting point for 79% of ransomware attacks 23. Strong MFA for every user, tight control of administrator accounts, managed endpoint detection and response, and central logs kept long enough to support a 72-hour incident report are the core of a sound program. Add backups that are tested by restoring and stored apart from the main network.

Questions for a Colorado Springs managed service provider

A Colorado Springs contractor should get four answers in writing before it signs:

  • Will you give us a customer responsibility matrix for the controls you manage?
  • Do your staff who touch our CUI environment meet our contract's personnel terms?
  • Can you support GCC High, or only commercial Microsoft 365?
  • How fast can someone reach our office, and is on-site time billed separately?

Contractors with their own IT or security lead can buy co-managed IT instead; Meriplex's 2026 pricing runs $45 to $175 a seat monthly 24. Exit terms and notice periods are in our MSP selection checklist. Colorado firms can compare our Denver page, and regional operators can look at Albuquerque and Salt Lake City, or start from the managed IT services overview.

Common questions

What does IT support run in Colorado Springs?

Managed IT support in Colorado Springs is usually $100 to $250 a seat each month in 2026 provider guides 12, and security-centered plans can top $300 4. A local systems administrator earns a median $101,850 before benefits 5.

How does a managed service provider in Colorado Springs support a defense contractor?

Besides the help desk, patching and backups, it should document which security controls it runs for you in a customer responsibility matrix that goes into your system security plan 15. It should also support GCC High or another environment suited to CUI if you need one.

Do Colorado Springs contractors need GCC High?

Not always. Microsoft offers GCC High for contractors holding DoD CUI or ITAR data 13, and any cloud holding covered defense information must meet FedRAMP Moderate equivalent security 14. Which environment fits depends on your data and contracts, so confirm with your assessor or counsel.

Is CMMC certification required in Colorado Springs right now?

Outside certification is on hold. From July 13, 2026 the most a contract can require is Level 1 (Self) or Level 2 (Self), with NIST SP 800-171 Rev 2 still enforced 1617. The schedule may change once DoD's review ends.

How many days does a Colorado Springs business have to report a data breach?

Thirty, counted from when it determines a breach occurred. Notice goes to affected Colorado residents, and to the Attorney General as well if 500 or more residents are affected 1819. A shorter deadline in another rule that applies to you takes priority 18.

Why does Colorado Springs have so many IT companies?

The 500 local firms in that Census code 3 include government IT, software and engineering contractors, not only support shops. The county's large Army and Space Force presence is a likely reason 10.
