Managed IT Services in Brooklyn

Managed IT services cost $100 to $250 a month for each person in the office, according to providers' 2026 pricing guides 12, which comes to about $1,000 to $2,500 monthly for a 10-person Brooklyn shop. Most Brooklyn businesses are that small or smaller: firms with fewer than 10 employees made up 84.7% of the borough's businesses in 2019 3.

Plan prices are one provider's published 2026 tiers (Strategic Micro Systems, Managed IT Services Cost Per User: A 2026 Pricing Guide). The in-house figure is the median salary for network and computer systems administrators (BLS OEWS May 2025 via O*NET OnLine, New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ: $119,390) divided by 0.70, because benefits are 30% of total compensation (BLS Employer Costs for Employee Compensation, June 2026). This is our calculation. Licenses, hardware and projects are extra either way, and one person cannot cover every hour.

New York breach notice rule: notify affected residents within 30 days. The Attorney General, the Department of State and the State Police (plus the Department of Financial Services for DFS-regulated businesses) must also be notified of any breach. The full rule and statute link are in our New York data breach notification law guide.

Help desk
When something on a computer breaks, staff call the help desk first: it takes the request by phone, email or chat, solves what it can from a distance, hands harder cases up the chain, and in a managed IT contract it is usually part of the per-user price.

IT services in Brooklyn: monthly costs for small offices

Because so many Brooklyn businesses are tiny, that per-person rate 12 usually adds up to a modest bill: a 5-person studio would spend roughly $500 to $1,250 a month, and a 10-person office $1,000 to $2,500.

The wage comparison carries a caveat. Federal wage tables give no separate figure for Brooklyn or for New York City, so the numbers here cover the whole New York-Newark-Jersey City metro, including Manhattan and the New Jersey suburbs. In that metro a computer user support specialist, the help desk role, earned a median $75,690 in May 2025, and a systems administrator $119,390 79. Add benefits, which BLS puts at 30% of private-sector compensation 8, and the help desk hire comes to about $108,100 annually in our math.

That is the core Brooklyn decision. Up to about 35 people, a managed plan even at the top of the published range costs less than one loaded help desk hire, and it comes with night, vacation and security coverage. Some small offices start out paying $75 to $250 per hour for break-fix visits 1, which works until the first serious outage. Tier contents are listed in our managed IT cost guide.

Brooklyn's small-business economy and the IT support it needs

Brooklyn's business base is large, fast-growing and mostly small. Kings County had 62,317 business establishments in 2023, including 8,779 with 10 to 49 employees and 1,446 with 50 to 249 4. These counts are for Brooklyn alone; our New York City page uses Manhattan's figures. The State Comptroller found that microbusinesses with fewer than 10 employees made up 84.7% of Brooklyn businesses in 2019 3. It also found that the number of private businesses grew 31.6% from 2010 to 2019, faster than in any other borough 3.

Education and health services is the biggest employment sector. It accounted for 289,260 Brooklyn jobs in 2019, or 43% of the borough's employment 3. Clinics, home care agencies, pharmacies and billing firms in that chain all handle patient data under HIPAA.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard adds a manufacturing and design cluster: more than 550 businesses in 17 industries, supporting more than 13,000 jobs on an industrial park of more than 300 acres 5. Makers and studios there tend to need shop-floor networks, storage for large design files and backups that protect that work.

The borough also had 861 businesses coded by Census as computer systems design and related services 6, a mix of software firms, consultants and support providers.

IT support in Brooklyn for offices under 10 people

An office with fewer than 10 people needs a short, documented setup more than a large contract. A sensible starting point:

  • Business accounts for email and files, not personal ones. Microsoft 365 Business Premium, which adds device management and security tools, lists at $22 per user per month on an annual plan 14.
  • MFA on every account. Microsoft research found it cut the risk of account compromise by 99.22% 15.
  • Managed endpoint protection on every laptop. At least one managed EDR vendor requires 50 seats to buy direct 18, so small offices usually get it through a provider.
  • Backups of shared files and email, checked by restoring something each quarter.
  • A written list of who holds admin access, stored somewhere other than one person's memory.

Many Brooklyn providers offer a smaller plan at this size or bill per device instead. Get help desk hours in writing. See our managed IT for small business guide and Microsoft 365 support page.

New York breach and security rules for Brooklyn businesses

New York's data security rules reach Brooklyn firms of every size. Under the SHIELD Act, a business that stores New Yorkers' private information on computers must keep reasonable safeguards in place 11. Firms under 50 employees, or below the law's revenue and asset limits ($3 million in yearly revenue for three years, or $5 million in assets), may fit those safeguards to their size 11. For a 6-person firm that can mean MFA, encrypted laptops, a backup routine and a one-page plan rather than an enterprise program.

After a breach, General Business Law 899-aa gives a business no more than 30 days from discovery to notify affected New York residents 10. Three state offices, the Attorney General, the Department of State and the Division of State Police, then receive the timing, content and distribution of those notices, however few people are involved 10. Consumer reporting agencies join the list only when more than 5,000 residents are notified at once 10. Our New York breach notification guide covers the full rule.

No comprehensive consumer privacy statute exists in New York as of October 2026 13. Statewide, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center received 45,255 complaints from New York in 2025, reporting about $1.23 billion lost 12.

Cybersecurity services for small Brooklyn firms

Small Brooklyn firms are targets too, and email payment fraud is the attack most likely to cost them money. Across the country, business email compromise victims reported about $3.05 billion lost in 2025 12, and the scheme needs only one convincing fake invoice. Contractors, landlords and studios that collect client deposits should confirm any new payment details by phone before sending money.

For a small office, cybersecurity services usually arrive as a security tier on top of IT support: endpoint detection and response, email filtering, staff training and monitored backups. Larger firms with an internal IT person can add monitoring and tooling through co-managed IT, priced at $45 to $175 per person monthly in Meriplex's 2026 estimate 16. Controls are ranked in order in our small office security guide.

During an active breach, phone the cyber insurer's hotline if you hold a policy, file with the FBI at ic3.gov 12, and leave machines as they are until evidence has been preserved; wiping or rebuilding first destroys it.

Choosing an IT company in Brooklyn: minimums, travel and exit terms

Pick a Brooklyn provider whose minimums and response times fit the size of your office. Ask:

  • Is there a minimum seat count or a minimum monthly fee?
  • Which parts of Brooklyn do your technicians cover in person, and is travel billed?
  • Can you help us write down our SHIELD Act safeguards?
  • What happens to our accounts, domains and passwords if we leave?

For projects such as an office move or a Microsoft 365 cleanup, outside IT consultants bill $150 to $250 hourly in a 2026 guide 17; many firms buy them as fixed-fee projects rather than open-ended hours. Further questions are in how to choose an MSP. Offices with staff elsewhere in the region can compare New Jersey and Stamford, and our managed IT services hub covers the rest.

Common questions

What do Brooklyn offices pay for IT services?

A managed plan costs $100 to $250 a person monthly in 2026 provider guides 12, about $12,000 to $30,000 a year for a 10-person office. Hourly break-fix work runs $75 to $250 1.

What does IT support in Brooklyn cost for a 5-person office?

At $100 to $250 per user, a 5-person office would pay about $500 to $1,250 a month, or $6,000 to $15,000 a year 12. Some providers set a monthly minimum, so ask before comparing quotes.

What does a managed service provider in Brooklyn handle for a small office?

It runs your help desk, keeps laptops and accounts patched and secured, watches backups and handles vendors such as your internet provider. Most charge per user or per device each month. Projects and on-site visits may be billed on top.

Are Brooklyn IT salaries the same as Manhattan's?

Federal wage data does not separate them. The figures for both cover the New York-Newark-Jersey City metro, where a help desk specialist earned a median $75,690 and a systems administrator $119,390 in May 2025 79. Actual Brooklyn offers may differ.

Do small Brooklyn businesses get an exemption from the SHIELD Act?

No. The law has no size exemption, though it lets smaller firms fit their safeguards to their size and resources 11. A short written plan plus MFA, encryption and backups is a common starting point.

How many days does a Brooklyn business have to give breach notice?

Affected New York residents must hear within 30 days of discovery 10. Three state agencies must also be told about the notices 10. Counsel can confirm the details for your case.
